Come meet the locals.

Windeyer is a small village with a population of 176 (plus you) located 30 minutes west of Mudgee town. The village itself consists of the Gold and Fleece Hotel, Bushlands Caravan Park, the fire station and progress hall. These are all located at the end of Clarkes Creek Road 3 km from the cottage. The locals are amongst the warmest you will meet anywhere in Australia. They truly welcomed us and made us part of the community. Drop into the local and see Hal and Nat for a beer or some fantastic food. If you need any supplies see John and Stacey at the caravan park and local shop. It is surprisingly well stocked for a small store and has saved us many unnecessary trips into town! Check the pub's notice board or social media too to see what is on. Live music and awesome events are quite regular including families and kids in the fun for the most part.
If you want to explore the surrounding area the historic village of Hill End is 30 minutes away and was the site of the largest gold specimen ever found anywhere in the world (290kg).
Gold panning and fossicking are very popular in the area which is rich in gold mining history. There is still plenty of gold to be found in the creeks and quartz white rocks that surround the cottage itself and the surrounding area. Mudgee is 30 minutes away and full of shops, cafes, bars, wineries etc. The nearest winery to us is Burnbrae Wines approximately 20 minutes away on the way to Mudgee.
